Estates & Probate
Reis Law Firm, PC is a Grand Forks, North Dakota firm that assists clients throughout northeast North Dakota and northwest Minnesota with their estate planning needs. We strive to listen to and implement the wishes and goals of each of our clients in his or her estate planning. Although not limited to options described below, these are a few options that may be considered when assisting clients with their estate planning:
Health Care Directive The health care directive appoints someone to make health care decisions for you if are unable to do so. By executing a health care directive, you can feel comfortable that the person you appoint will follow your health care wishes.
Powers of Attorney The power of attorney nominates someone you trust to have legal authority to handle your affairs if the need arises. The attorney-in-fact stands in your shoes. The Power of Attorney is terminated at your death.
Wills You can determine how you want your assets distributed when you die. This can be done through a will which is usually subject to probate. A will can also include provisions for minor children and/or family members who are incapacitated. Our firm will assist you in determining the best option to be used to fulfill your goals.
Trusts Our firm is experienced in creating all types of trusts whether it be living or testamentary trusts or revocable or irrevocable trusts. A trust can be used to avoid probate. Whether or not a trust should be used depends on your wishes and goals and we will assist you in determining whether or not a trust should or could be used to fulfill your goals.
Probate and Probate Avoidance Probate is a court process which handles the administration and distribution of the assets of your estate if you die leaving a will or die without a will. We assist the survivors of a decedent with the probate process in order to make it easier for them to understand and complete. Our firm also discusses options that can be used to avoid probate as to some or all of the assets in an estate if that is what you desire.
Our firm provides assistance to a variety of clients. We understand that no two clients are alike and that each client has individual goals to be achieved. We discuss all options with our clients before they make a decision regarding their estate planning.
